Why I Think DJI Phantom 3 Is the Right Choice for Aerial Photography

Recently I did some research on the DJI Phantom 3, and would now like to share with you the reasons why I’ve decided to use it.

Choosing the right drone can be complicated, especially if you have specific requirements, but if you’re interested in quality aerial photography, like I am, Phantom 3 is the right choice for you. There are two different versions, Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced, but fret not, I’m going to help you choose between them right after I talk about the general benefits of having this drone.

Five reasons for buying Phantom 3

  • Shutter and start/stop buttons

These buttons make remote control extra easy. It’s the same feature you’d get with Inspire 1, and it allows you to make great aerial photos.

  • Improved Field of View (FOV)

When using GoPro to take aerial pictures, you’ll often end up with curved horizons and warped images that can only be fixed with the use of software. Unlike GoPro, Phantom 3 has a good Field of View that will give you normal pictures.

  • LightBridge

This is one of the biggest advantages of having Phantom 3! Instead of buying an extra monitor, you can simply hook up your iPhone, iPad or Android phone and get a 720HD real time feed. Framing your pictures has never been easier.

  • Amazing camera

The quality of Phantom’s camera is equal to the one of Inspire 1. It takes 12MP pictures and shoots 4k and 1080p videos, which, trust me, is amazing!

  • Cost-efficiency

For roughly 1/2-1/3 of the cost of Inspire 1, you’ll get the same amount of functionality.

Inspire 1 has some great features that make it better than Phantom 3, but I still believe Phantom is the best drone for aerial photography, and not just because of the price. To prove my point, I’m going to talk about the benefits of having Inspire 1.

The biggest advantage of owning Inspire 1 would be the speed. It ascends and descends significantly faster than Phantom. It is also equipped with retractable landing gear and has the option of using two remotes instead of one.

These features will surely come in handy if you’re trying to capture fast movements, but won’t have much effect on your photographs. This is why I still think that Phantom 3 is the best drone to buy.

Professional vs Advanced

Phantom 3 Professional is great for slow moving fly overs, but won’t work for you if you need to film something at a higher speed.

This is why, if you don’t need the 4k video, you should opt for Phantom 3 Advanced. It’s great for taking pictures and filming fast moving objects.

Whether you’re going to choose Professional or Advanced is up to you, but I hope I’ve managed to show you why having Phantom 3 drone is great for aerial photography.
